Melaka Getaway 2017: Final Day

Melaka Getaway 2017: Final Day

Final Day, Monday, 17th July 2017

It was the last day for 2017 getaway. Now came the part we all had been dreaded – the packing and cleaning up bits. The night before we all had been predicting that we’d wake up late and would mainly focus on packing so there would be no time to prepare breakfast - thought we’d just eat at a restaurant.

So, when I woke up, around 8.30am, I heard noises coming from the kitchen. My first assumption was some of the guys had started packing our stuff. So I went down wanted to lend a hand only to find Kamil and Zi were busy cooking fried rice and frying off some fish crackers! Summed up of how inconsistent we were in sticking to our plans. However, we were grateful to have breakfast prepared! They’ll be good parents one day :P

Soon after we had our breakfast, we then finally started packing. However there were some issues regarding some leftover food/ingredients. So, like bunch of thieves distributing the stolen items, we all picked the food/ingredients that we all wanted and made sure nothing is wasted.

Some of us wanted to buy some souvenirs to bring home and also since we’re in Melaka we all decided that we need to taste their asam pedas. We all head out to first, stop by at any stall/shop that sells souvenirs and then go hunt for our asam pedas! Unfortunately, after about a 20 minute-drive, we still hadn’t seen any souvenir shop/stall. Thankfully, as we were heading towards Ayer Keroh, we found a row of shops that sell souvenirs ranging from snacks, local ingredients and even crafts. So we took our time to look around for a little bit. I bought some packets of dodol and gula Melaka. The dodol was so soft and yummy! Now when I came to think of it, I should’ve bought more!

So, we got our souvenirs and we were getting hungry! Time to go and eat our asam pedas. But hold on – Kamil suddenly went straight to Giant B Galeri Lebah Melaka located just in front of us and we, like obedient baby ducks, followed him entering the Giant B Galeri Lebah Melaka.

Should have worn yellow and black to match the building :(

Thought these giants bees could traumatised little infants. Even I was afraid to get nightmares being attacked by bees this huge

There were a few others placed down hill. But we didn't bother to explore the rest of the area

There were nothing much to see really. Personally I wasn’t really intrigued to learn about bees that moment. I just wanted to eat!

But Zi had a project on bees and she did share some insightful knowledge on them. She sounded like a true bee expert! She actually should bee-come one (see what I did there? Okay lame, moving on!).

Don't believe a word this dude is saying - ceramah tanpa tauliah LOL

The rest seemed really interested with bees

So, after some photos taken we all drove down to the asam pedas restaurant (suggested by a local by the way) nearby.

There were a spread of tempting dishes such as some greens, fried chicken, few kuah masak lemak cili api (spicy as they should have :P) and of course asam pedas! There were a few sorts of asam pedas dishes – fish, beef and chicken. I took the gravy from the stingray asam pedas dish and had a large piece of fried chicken with it. It was cheap. All that for just RM5!

Sigh - Should have edited for better lighting

Yumsss

Of course, the star of all - asam pedas!

So, it was time for the official tasting. I was on my ‘Masterchef’ judgment mode. I had high hopes and expectations. Then, the taste.

F***ing RAW!

LOL just kidding. They were good, not great, but good! I was hoping for them to be a little bit spicier and a little more sourness would have really given it a ‘zing’ to make the dish really great. But heh, that’s just me with my ridiculous expectations. In the end, couldn’t complain more ;)

That lunch, sadly, was our final destination and activity to end our CL Getaway 2017.

Our total expenditure

I personally thought a short weekend trip is not enough. But since we all are so busy with work and other commitments, to be able to gather for even a day is hard enough. All in all, it had been a great gathering. The moment I got home I started to miss everyone already. But no worries, we have plenty of time to plan out for a better trip for CL Getaway 2018 ;)

Incomplete but still, <3

I would like to thank the trustworthy (hmmm trustworthy? :P) Zi for being responsible with our expenditures. Special thanks to Kamil who came up with the idea for the location and did all the bookings. Thanks to the ones who lend us their cars and let us use their stuff for the weekend. Finally, thanks to everyone for being there and for all good reasons, adding more valuable memories for us all to remember for years to come (FGS this sounds like I just won the bloody Oscar)!
